4x4 not disengaging
Having trouble--98 f150 will engage and everything engages into 4h but sometimes will go into 4low---after everything turns o.k. then front wheels and drive shaft will not disengage unless you turn off the motor....Is there maybe a relay that is staying energized somewhere..... Thanx

With it engaging okay, I would look at 2 main things. On the firewall, passenger side, high up near the hinge are 2 solenoids. One of these will engage the front diff, which is working fine, and the other disengages the front diff. Either the disengage solenoid is bad or you have a vacuum leak between there and the front diff. I doubt if it is the vacuum motor on the front diff, as you are engaging it fine. I can't remember which solenoid disengages the diff, but I would look for a cracked or broken vacuum line first.
