I wound up the spare tire cable with out a spare while I was getting it fixed on my 2000 F350. Now I can only get it down about 4 inches then binds and that useless lock is starting to strip. Is there any way of fixing this problem by rebuilding the cable wench? What years don’t use that stupid lock? Anybody know what that cable wench goes for $$$??? I don’t care about it locking, if any body needs a bald tire and a rusty rim—if they are that disparate—have at it. What the truck should have come with is locking wheel lugs so my alloy rims aren’t stolen—but if the lock for that would have been anything like the spare tire lock it is probably best they didn’t make them lock. Thanks for any help!!!<o></o>
Yes it needed weight I had a brain storm, I chained a cement block to it and was then able to unwind it till the block hit the ground--then i hooked the chain to the cable and pulled it with one hand while cranking down with the other (no easy task). So that problem is solved -and the spare is up again. But I would like to know if there is a way of removing the lock set up--kept jumping out as I was trying to crank it had to also push in at the same time, was afraid of stripping it. As I was turning the "air blue" during this proceedure I would like to get rid of that lock set up so next time it isn't so hard to deal with in an emergency. thanks again for any help
Yeah, I have the stupid spare key on my 02 F250. I'm not sure if Ford is still using them on their new trucks or not. I agree, if someone really wants my spare they can have it. I was finally able to get the cable down by pulling on it with one hand while pushing in on and turning the rod. (Flexibility and strong abdominal muscles help). The trick is to push in while cranking to avoid stripping the key. I don't know if there is a way to modify the winch so the key is not needed. If anyone finds a way, please let us know. Thanks, Carl
