My 99 PSD 4X4 crewcab short bed pulls to the right. It has been re-aligned several times by the dealer and now by a specialty shop. Last time it was done they told me all of the adjustment was used up and they would have to cut out a bushing to make further alignment. Has anyone else had this problem? The misalignment causes a lot of steering adjustment on the highway and makes it tiring to drive after a few hours. Is there something I need to be asking the alignment shop? Same problem is occuring after putting on new tires so I know it is not a tire issue. Any advice would be appreciated.
this doesn't sound right...have you had the trk since it was new? if so, have you ever wrecked it or "yanked" anyone or anything with it ? what i hear you say is that even though it has been to two different shops, they say it is still out of alignment, because they are saying that they will have to cut a bushing ( that should not be necessary) to bring it into alignment...if that's so, then the trk has frame problems and they are trying to compensate it . the frame needs to be within specs first then fine tune it with the FOUR wheel aligment. one note...make sure BOTH of your front hubs are free wheeling because one them could be holding or the axle support needle bearing could be siezed in the bearing hub causing one of the axles to turn all the time...hope this helps a little.
I've seen tires cause pull in the front end. If it hasn't been wrecked, it might be worth your while to swap your front tires. Right to left and left to right. It just might be radial pull. Long shot, but maybe.
The camber is likely the problem. It is adjusted with a shim in the upper balljoint. With the proper puller it shouldn't have to be cut out. I've got a 2000 250 PSD short bed and it also pulles to the right. I dont do much highway driving, but I'll have to get to it sooner or later.
The pickup has never been wrecked. Usually after an alignment things are ok for a few hundred miles then it will gradually start pulling right again. The last alignment was when they told me they had no more adjustment room and would have to do the cutting job. It just seems strange to me that a big heavy frame and the parts on a 3/4 ton would keep having this problem. I am careful about pulling up to curbs and usual things that knock out the alignment. I do go off road on ranch and forest service two track roads, but I sure don't run and gun it to hit bumps hard. Just wondered if anyone else had run into this. Guess I need to get some good technical information about front ends so I can ask the right questions of the mechanic.
