I had a friend bring his 97 f-150 4x4 over to check an engine code. It is dual fuel 5.4 it calls a cyl 5 missfire. Well I took a look under the hood to see about checking this plug and coil out. Now I have changed plugs on several of these mod motors and it isn't the easiest job but it isn't the worst either. But let me tell you there is no physical way to change the plugs on this truck with out removing the entire propane setup on the left hand side. So a word of warning you had better be rich if you buy a dual fuel because it will take several hours to do a tune up when the time comes. Or be ready to trade it off the first time it starts to miss. I could see this costing $1000.00 at a Ford dealership and supposedly only trained propane mechanics are supposed to work on it. I guess Iam getting old I do not turn down much work but I let this one go.
Is it the factory dual fuel system?
They are horrible to work on.
On a gas 5.4 I can change the plugs in under an hour, on a dual fuel it takes over 4 hours
It is factory dual fuel and I can not believe they did it this way you see nothing on the left half of the engine but propane components. I hope the engineer who DIDN"T thinks this out get to spend eternity changing plugs in this setup.
