hard to start 1993 ford Ranger
I have a 1993 Ford Ranger with a 3.0, It is very hard to start after the initial start, the only way to get it to start is to hold the accelerator to the floor and turn it over till it starts, then it runs very ruff and blows black smoke. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm: Do you have any stored codes? Very first thing that comes to mind is the Idle Air Controller. One of it's tasks is to have the correct mixture for start up. Second check could the Fuel Pressure Regulator - too much pressure to the injectors causing the rich mixture and black smoke.
A 1993 would be an OBD-1 so you can retrieve the codes easily. Check the Read First at the beginning of this forum for how to do that. If you get a code you can post it here and we will try to point you in the right direction.
Good Luck

Begin the repair process by pulling codes. On EEC-IV systems, you do not need a code scanner, but it makes the job a bit easier. Many auto parts stores will do this for you for free in hopes of your buying parts from them. As was noted, the process is in the sticky titled Technical Infomation. I'll hold back my speculation on what's going on until codes are pulled .
