My wife has a 93 Explorer, and the door chime does not work. I do not know if it was disconnected or if it is broken. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the location so I could try to get it working again. Any help appreciated.
On the 93's, I believe the chimebox is behind the a/c controls. I disconnected mine in my 97, but also helped a friend do his in his 92. We were able to get to it from the floorboard - looking up under the dash and behind the a/c controls.
Best way to find it is let the chime be going and get on the floor and listen/find it that way. I think we pulled the entire plug from the box wth no ill effects on his. On the 95-01's, you only remove one wire from the plug.
Yours will be a little more difficult to unhook than the 1st gens. The 2nd gens have more tied into the chimebox than just the chime. You have to find the wire and remove it.
I am doing this from memory, so bear with me.
Lay on the drivers floorboard, and look directly under the steering column. There is a brown relay box with 2 or 3 wires (i don't remember). The wire you want to remove from the harness is the brown wire.
Use a test light to check and see where the pulse is to make sure. I do not have access to my X right now, but the neighbor has one. I'll look at his when I get home and let you know for sure.
