Running rough cutting out only when cold!
First diesel and don't know where to start. Hate to take to dealer unless I have to. It runs rough, and seems to "miss" and sputter until the motor is to normal temps on the temp gauge. Then it runs like a champ. It will even run fine after it's cooled down some, and restarted below normal temp on gauge. However if it's ice cold and started it runs crappy until warmed up everytime. I'm guessing some kind of sensor, or something. I have a code reader, and it's throwing codes 1316, and 1211? Something about IDM also. Anyone got any ideas here? I have a Airraid intake on it, and was wondering if I better take it off to take this to the dealer if I end up down that road. The truck has 87K on it so warranty is still good on motor. How about Exhaust systems? Will they warranty it with a turbo back exhaust or deny it?

I am having the EXACT problem right now. It turns out it is a bad #5 injector. The dealer mechanic checked while I was standing there, the injectors electrically fire but #5 sound noticeably different. It sounds like it is missing a cylinder until it warms up, either in the driveway or on the road. The "sell car soon" light comes on whenever the misfire is present and goes away as the misfire goes away.
