I am currently helping someone with a unique Ford truck and need some help/suggestions. The truck is a 1969 Farm and Ranch F-100 styleside, it has a 360, C6 transmission, and a flexomatic suspension.
My question is this. We want to lower the rear ~2 inches, what option is the best and also which option is the cheapest? The leafs have rust in the bands and they seem to be trying to move. I would guess that new springs would be the best option. Second question: Should we get a stock like spring w/ a shackle drop or should we keep stock shackles and go with a drop spring?
Finally, what all do you guys know about these trucks? Are they rare or pretty common. It seems to have random options like the 360 (I didnt even know Ford made a 360 - Im a Jeep person), and a C6 (I thought most F-100's had a C-4), and finally the flexomatic (isnt that a 3/4 ton truck thing?). Thanks so much for any help you can give.
The Flex-o-matic is a progressive suspension. My '68 F100 has it. As the suspension is placed under load, it becomes progressively stiffer. It was Ford's way of having a suspension which would give a decent ride when unloaded, but be stiff enough to carry a load when needed.
Its a 2wd. If it was up to me I would put a transfer case, SFA and put some 40's under it. But, its not mine and its what he wants to do. I still havent had any advice as to where to get a lowering kit for the rear or any comments on how/if this truck is rare. Thanks for everything so far it helps alot.
Thanks for all the help. I checked all of the places you all mentioned. But I still seem to be running into a problem with the flexomatic. Will drop shackles work with Flexomatic? Is there a drop kit for a flexomatic suspension. Like I said Im a stranger to the Ford world.
The 360 (FE motor) and the C6 are by no means random on these old trucks. They are probably the most common. And I like em' both!
I don't know that there are many lowering kits available. I think most people have done something custom. You may be able to flip the axle on top of the springs.
There are a couple of guys that check into this forum occasionally. These guys have dropped 67-72 F Series and may be able to help. I'll try to link their galleries below.
