Does anyone have a ballpark estimate of the value of a 67 F100 short bed. I found one that is a daily driver in Los Angeles. The body is straight, no visible rust or dents. Interior is okay. Stock size tires. It has a 6 cylinder with a 3 speed tranny. Owner wants $2300, which I thought was high. It needs to be restored.
We have lots of long beds running around for less than a $1000. Is the short bed worth a lot more?
hey man, well, some of the guys around here will tell u that these trucks are"priceless", but hey, everything in this world is worth money,so i bought my 72 short bed with out a motor for 600,and my veryfirst truck was a long bed with a moter for 500,and im gonna say that 2000 is a good round number,so short beds are worth more, lots more, because they are rare
If it's a daily driver in decent mechanical condition (ie brakes works and truck doesn't overheat when you drive it a mile), then I would say 2300 sounds ok, especially if it has always been a California truck. That means less rust!
Having moved out of LA last year, I would say that, in the condition you described, it's probably worth $2300. Everything costs so much down there... Out of curiosity, do you plan on driving it in LA traffic? I've been considering moving back to SOCAL at some point, but have no plans on considering my '69 F-100 a daily driver down there. My left leg would never be able to deal with the time on the clutch! As it is, I wore out the throwout bearing on an '01 Mustang in less than three years from riding that sucker on the 405.
I bet if you check you will find that is about what it sold for new! If I really liked it I might go to $1500, but no more. Check out the online newspaper classifieds from Bakersfield to Sacramento - shortys show up all the time, at only a small premium to the long beds.
It would be different if the truck had PS and power disk brakes already installed, and a serviceable paint job.
Go to Ebay and do a search on the Shortys and see what you find and check out the online classifieds as well.Print up all the shortys you find for less than $2300 and then show it to the owner and see if he will meet you somewhere in the middle. It may not help but atleast it will give you a good idea on the fair market value.Yes it is possible the guy will tell you to add the cost of driving to wherever will just add to the cost of an Ebay vehicle but just tell him you have a relative out that way so it will fit in with your travel plans.
