water pump woes
has anyone had problems sealing a water pump on a 302? ive done mine about 5-6 times, tryed all different methods and sealers. it still leaks. i also noticed some copper or brass looking pieces in the coolant overflow, could this be from the radiator? i was very nervous when i saw them, this is a heathy new 302 with about 3000 miles on a complete rebuild. ive also tryed a different pump and the timing cover was swapped as well. any help would be great..

New gaskets and just a little silicone around the water channels should do it. Some people don't use any silicone, and too much can definitly cause leaks because it actually prevents the gaskets from seating. Use a torque wrench (not sure on ft/lbs) in a criscross pattern to make sure each bolt is tightened equally. Where is the leak coming from? Did you install the water pump backplate with a good gasket?
