Angry fan clutch

I just got my 88 Bronco with a 5.8 and automatic trans running again. I know that the radiator has a pinhole that I am going to get repaired tomorrow. I am experiencing a little overheating even when the radiator has just been filled and I am suspecting the fan clutch. How can it be tested? I have to remove it to put the fan shroud back on when I remove the radiator for repair so this would be an ideal time to replace it if it is bad.

With the fan and clutch still mounted, you should be able to spin the fan by hand, and it should only spin a turn or so at most. If it just spins, yea, its bad.
If its okay, I'd pull the thermostat and replace it. I wouldnt waste time testing it. Might as well just spend a couple bucks and consider it preventive maintenence.
If still no good, maybe power flush the cooling system.....might have nasty build up in the cooling jacket.
If still no good......try the water pump.

I guess I should have mentioned that I just replaced the water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing, and hot water tube a few weeks ago. The water pump seems to be working. It is not leaking and while the engine is running, you can see a steady flow of water circulation in the radiator when the cap is off. Thanks for the advise.
