I'm having a problem with my 88 5.8 with C-6 transmission. I've noticed in the last couple of months that I have uneven acceleration at normal or lower acceleration speeds. For instance when I go from a stop and accelerate gradually to about 40 you can feel the speed increase then slow down then increase etc. at constant throttle pressure.(Holding foot pedal in exact place) If you go WOT no problem. I've also noticed that with the cruise control set that the same thing will happen. I live on an old lake bed so the roads are almost perfectly flat. I set the cruise control on 50 and the pickup will slow to about 46 then speed up to 50 then slow to 46 over and over again. It doesn't stop. It doesn't happen everytime I drive it but often enough to drive me crazy. Any help would be appreciated.
One other question. My gas gauge stays stuck on full tank until it reaches about 1/8 then drops. Just before it drops it will swing wildly back and forth for a few miles. Just like the fuel was sloshing around. Does anyone have any ideas on this problem?
I had a similair prob with my 87 5.8. The acc. was uneven and hesitent. I bought a rebuild kit for the carb and a fuel filter. Everything runs great now, not to mention more power and better mileage. I have the same guage problem though...I can't figure that one out.
Thanks for the reply. My 88 has got the multi point fuel injection so I can't rebuild the carb. I did try a new fuel filter and no improvement.
Thanks again,
Ron
yup 88 was the year 351w went fuel injected in the f150. really i don't know much about your prob. have you tried seeing if there are any codes stored in the computer?
