Just bought a 54 f-100 the guy says its a 312. I have been told that if it is painted red originaly that it is a 312. Can someone tell me if there are any noticable things to tell me if it is a 312 becides casting numbers and whats a good runnin 312 worth? thanks
130hp with the EBU engine/heads and 145 if a EBV block/heads. 54 Ford trucks went EBV around the middle of the year.
Lots of 312's were swapped out of Mercs, they had their own colors. There were even left over factory replacement 312's put into 62-4 trucks as 292's! Ford threw nothing away.
The web site you guys recommend lists ECZ 6015 "A" , and ECZ 6015 "C", but mine says its a ECZ 6015 "B"!? Does anyone know what that number means? I'm still rying to fiqure out if its a 292 or a 312.
The ONLY positive way is to drop the pan and ID the Mains caps; ECZ is used on the 312.
Crank flange can be misleading, factory replacement engines and cranks often had no dots.
Merc, Does it really matter at this point which one it is, 292 or 312? I'm just trying to get it running for now and from what I gather from reading this forum, the parts are pretty much interchangable. Thanks for your input.
