1985 Ford Ranger 4x4, Automatic, 2.8 V6.
Truck started to lurch when putting on a load, such as going up a hill, or if I depressed the throttle to pass or etc, then it would smooth out, eacg day it got incresingly worse and sputtered and backfired upon starting then it would smooth. I have changed the ignition module, distributor cap and rotor, ignition wire. I am getting no fire to any spark plugs etc. Would the next step be the igniton coil or the stator? Or how do I go about determining the problem. Help Please!
Take those parts off and have them tested at a parts house. Your truck is getting old enuf to start breaking wires and getting corroded connection problems also.
I assume you have actually used a spark tester...

Is there a way to test the stator and ignition coil at home?. I should probably add more to the originial description. The truck died on me as I was slowing at a stop sign. When trying to restart it would not start and has not since. It sputtered briefly then died. Any ideas what would cause the truck to just die like that. I had heard that the ignition module would do that and exhibit these type of symptoms. So I would assume that the old ignition module was good if changing failed to solve the problem. Or could it be a series of problems. I have followed the wires coming off of the carb and traveling to the various ignition parts and they all seem to be fine, the only corrosion I found was the ignition coil was corroded, I changed wires and cleaned it up. Could the ignition coil being bad cause this and exhibit these type of symptoms?.
