94 Ranger 2.3 L misc notes.
The Ford factory service manual (P 03-01B-5), shows an inner timing belt cover, and thats what I believe step (10) in the Haynes Manual is referring to. Instead of "......remove the four bolts and one screw and detatch the outer timing cover...", it should read "remove the four bolts and one screw and detatch the INNER timing cover.....".Hey its the printers mistake.
Replace the timing belt tensioner and spring assembly (Ford part) while you are in there.(see Murphys Law below).
If you are going to take down the transmission for a throwout bearing change, my experience has been to change EVERYTHING under there,(slave cylinder, spring, bearing, clutch disk).( Murphys law comes into play here: If its gonna break, it will do it just after you have re-installed the transmission) (not replacing all the parts).
I flush the PS system every year.Period. Same with brake lines and clutch lines, transmission(Mercon ATF), as well as the cooling system.
PM (preventative maintaince) Rocks!
