Which one is best one to use? Does Shell make a synthetic oil? If so where can you get it and how does it compare in price with Mobil 1? Thankls for any input
If you use Mobil get Delvac 1 or Mobil 1 Truck & SUV. Mobil 1 isn't formulated for diesel application. Use an oil with CH-4 or CI-4 rating. I use Rotella T Synthetic. Wal Mart carries a good selection of oils, including Shell and Mobil products, at good prices. They also carry Motorcraft oil filters.

What weight of rotella synthetic oil? I have only seen 10w-40w in rotella synthetic.
I was told to use the 10-40 grade oil. I used the Rotella regular in my new van with 6.0 for the first oil change. When I called the dealership and was told how much they wanted, I did it myself. A little over $40. with filter. They wanted $89.95 + tax. Yeh, Right.
The Rotella syn 10w40 will be just fine. Has been used by many heavy hualers for years.
Would the synthetic oil be better to use in the new 6.0 diesel? Would the syn go against the Ford warrantee.
I drove BIG truck for 20 years and we never used synthetic oil. Put a few hundred thousand miles on them diesels. Is there an advantage in these smaller engines?

Yes. These engine are shipped with syn-blend oil. Your big rig made 350 Hp/1200ftlb torque@1800rpm. Your 6.0 needs about 3000 rpm for max power. (not sure of the power curve at the moment). Higher rpm and operating temp(hepls meet EPA numbers) are the main issues....
I ran Mobil Delvac1 synthetic in my tractor. Cat 3406E 475 hp. Gained about 8% fuel economy, extended the drain intervals to nearly 100,000 miles, and used less oil in the meantime.
FYI-I haven't been able to find anything to the contrary, but Rotella 10w-40 synthetic is a synthetic blend motor oil not a full synthetic. Rotella T Full Synthetic 5w-40, in the blue jug, is the one to use.
