The rear on my 04 F-250 3.73 limited slip made a loud groaning noise when spinning the rear tires from a standing start around wet RT handers today. I could feel it in the floorboards. I did "peel-out" in the dry the other day under the same conditions. Only right rear laid down rubber.
Problems with the limited slip? Truck only has 4500 miles?
Those LS units are not the best, but I would think with just 4500 miles they should still grab. Have you tried easing out in the mud to see if it catches?
I have a '99 that hasn't failed - yet - with about 90K miles. (Dana 80 DRW). But, there's been posts here that suggest new units have. Since the search function is still out maybe someone can come along that has and tell how they dealt with it.
