For what it's worth, I just replaced the old 31/10.50-16.5 rubber on my '77 F250 with some more recent (used TXR's from my Suburban) 235/85-16 tires on Ford "take-off" rims. I also let Les Schwab install new shocks at the same time. I can't tell you how much of the improvement is the shocks and how much the tires. But I am pleased. Winter is coming on; Tall and Narrow is where it's at.
I may not be cornering with the Corvettes on pavement, but I have a good ride, less "wander," and I'm much better prepared for slush and snow.
Wide tires? Think "toboggan," and sometimes at amazingly low speeds.
Now if I can just get my speedo/odo checked and figure out what my gas mileage really is.....
