6.0 idle issues
Last weekend, I was sitting in line at a boat ramp. About 1/2 hour of slow, stop and go, idling. When I got to the parking lot, I could give it a little throttle....and it started coughing and blowing out exhaust smoke. Figured it just loaded up? Fine after I revved a bit.
Since then, however....any idling over about 1 minute causes the same thing. Idle fluxuates between 450 and 800 rpms. This continues until I give it the throttle, then it's done, until I idle over about 1 minute again. It did it this morning sitting in the drive-thru at Taco Bell (mmm...bean burrito breakfast!).
04 CC F350 4x4. Build date 05/04, one month earlier for the engine, if I remember correctly. 7600 miles when the idling issues started.

Wierd. It'll idle, and get real quiet....then clank clank clank kind of an upsurge in idle speed and a lot louder.
I should take it in and have it looked at, but I don't know if it'll misbehave for the tech.

Yesterday, coasting to a stop light, the engine died! Didn't sputter, just plain quit. Hate having the power brakes die on an 8,000lb rig.
Started right back up. Ran fine until the next time I shut it off. Then, back to the same thing. Hasn't died since then, but I'm keeping it in Tow/Haul mode, keeps the RPM's up when slowing down.
I'm kinda stuck, as I have to have a rig to drive this week. Can't get a loaner from my purchase dealership for quite a while yet, and can't even get into my local dealership until Tuesday.
So, I guess I'll drive it until then, or until it dies completely, at which point I'll wig out on some poor Ford Factory service person.
BTW....oil was changed approximately 800 miles before the problems started. I haven't checked the level yet, I'll do so when the rig cools down this morning. I would hope, being one of the bigger diesel dealerships around, that they know better than to put a "full bucket" of oil in her.....but, that may not be the case.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Good luck man!!! I know how it is to need the truck and have her in the shop... I've had mine in and out of the shop since I've owned it. I love the truck, but I want to make sure all the petty stuff is fixed before I move across country this winter.
If I were to 'guess' at the problem, the first thing I would have suggested is your oil level. Sounds like that's what you intended to do anyway. Please let us know what you find out.
