I doing a build now on a 302. The block is at machine shop now getting balanced and bored out. I don't know if you know but 347's have a tendancy to crack the block right down the middle. I was going to go with a 347 but decided on the 331 instead. It makes about the same hp but a shade less torque. It has cost me some serious money so far on parts.
I have a set of World Roush 200 heads with 2.02/1.6 valves, I retro fit my block with roller lifters and installed a set of roller rockers on the heads. All the internals are forged, crank, rods, and pistons(flat tops with valve reliefs). 10:1 compression. I have a Lunati 290/300 cam with a lift of .540/.560. Edelbrock intake, Holley 570, MSD dist., 6a box and coil, long tube headers and dual Flowmasters. Also electric fans to free up hp.
This is going to be put in a 1968 F100 with a beefed up C4, and a 3.70 posi rearend. The predictions from the local speed shop are, that it's going to be making around 450 ponies, not bad for an old farm truck.
Serious power can be made from a small block. I'll let you know how it runs and how it's street manners are, when the motor gets done. Give me a week or so.

It's all in the heads and making sure your components match.
I wanted to get one thing clear, what is the difference between the 331 and the 347? From what I have read and have been told the only real difference is yeah the cubes, but that is in the bore of the block. Please someone correct me if I am worng because I just wanna know so I can decide to stay at a built 306 or go higher. Thanks
*These are for most kits, there are some kits that change the length of the rods and crank for the 347. I would personally go for the 331. I have a 347 in my '68 F100 and it uses some oil, but I've heard from other people this is normal for a 347. Also, you have to notch the bottom of the cylinder walls for a 347 for the rod to clear the skirt of the cylinder wall, so from experience, I would just go with the 331, less headaches
nobody has answerd my problem yet i have had people ask me things but never help get to the bottom of the situation. plz help me out
Lot's of people are trying to help you, if you had information on what camshaft, what heads, compresion ratio, and intake you are going to use we could help you out more, the power an engine makes is dependent on all of theses factors.
I could build a 331 or 347, but if I put stock heads, and stock cam, and manifold's on it it is not going to live up to it's potential.
i am goin a 347 stroker and i was wonderin what kind of numbers i would get and what rods i need to get sould i rubild the heads for more power
everything is will have
stock 289 heads ported
cam with a dur of 285/325 and a 655/655 lift
rollerrockers
afftermarket intake
850cfm holly carb
thanks
