Does anyone know of a way to "trick" the air ride suspension on a 1996 Limited to set the suspension to either four high or four low, but actually stay in two wheel drive. I can do it by going into four low, waiting till the suspension rises then very quickly flip it back to 2 wheel drive and into gear. The system will stay raises and frim until I put the vehicle into park. The reason I want to do this is I really like the ride in either 4 high or 4 low, but hate the floaty swaying ride of this vehicle in regular two wheel drive. I have an electrical schematic, but wanted to see if anyone out there had done it and can give me some pointers. thanks
If you got above 85mph, then it'll be firm. Haha...lets hope you won't do that though. Since you have a '96, why don't you keep it in 4WD Auto instead of 2WD?? You don't have a high setting so basically, the front wheels will engage ONLY if the rear wheels start to slip.
The Ford garage said that the clutch in the tansfer case would prematurely wear if I ran it in 4wd Auto. The mechanic stated that that's why they have lots of Transfer Case problems in the following year explorer's because they were in 4wd auto all the time.
