And by rust stains, i mean RUST STAINS. In the process of changing the radiator in an early 90's toyota corolla we spilled "rusty water" all over the driveway. Thats right, the inside of the radiator or something, I didnt get a good look at it, rusted and turned the water a deep red and that spilled on the driveway. It almost looks like we cleaned a deer out there or something. But anyways, I dont have access to a power washer or anything, so does anyone have any tried and tested ways of getting this off? Thanks for the help.
One of the best rust stain removers I have used is Whink. A guy that cleans carpet turned me on to it. It is used for fabric but I used it on concrete and worked like a charm. If you need to clean a big area it is probably not cost effective. The warning says contains hydrofluoric acid so that is the active cleaning agent.
I have only been able to find the stuff at Kroger.
thanks for the help so far... Its on concrete and its actually faded a little bit but its still there. Its not a LARGE surface, but its a long drawn out area where it washed down the driveway. I have some muratic acid from unclogging a drain so I may try that, and if that doesnt work I may have to invest in some CLR, I hear it works pretty good.
There is a product that is used on boat surfaces that is great for removing rust stains. I used it many times on my concrete driveway where my old boat trailer rusty areas would leave rust stains on the concrete. You apply it on the surface and wait a few minutes and the rust stain vanishes. Ican't remember the name of the product but West Marine, US boat carries the product.
BTW besure to wash the surface with a mix of baking soda and water shortly after applying muratic acid to concrete. If not the acid will etch it to a very porous surface.
I hate Wall Mart! but go there and buy IRON OUT. Also available at a lot of hardware stores. It is a powder and takes rust stains out of anything! Makes products like CLR look like baby food.
