Throttle Position Sensor?
I had the vehicle serviced, and the mechanic told me that the barometric pressure sensor was bad. He replaced it, the check engine light when out, and the truck ran perfectly.
This week, the check engine light lit again, and the problem was worse than it was before. I wanted to check the plugs, but couldn't easily get to them. In so doing, I disconnected the negative battery terminal, clearing the OBD computer.
Today, a snowstorm hit. I decided to chance driving my truck for the 4WD over this old, borrowed sedan. I never pressed the accelerator hard, and never went over 2500 RPM. The check engine light is on, but I didn't have any problems with the engine. Could the problem be the throttle position sensor?
I have a 95 STX, 4.0 engine.
There are not enough sensors to properly self diagnose these systems. The control unit programming is not "robust" enough to figure out if sensors are out of tolerance. The ECU will hide many "problems" in an engine until total failure occurs. I love the reliability of the new electronic controls but I hate them at the same time... Is this a Love-Hate relationship?
Thanks for using FTE!
