about 3 years ago i bought an alpine deck for my ford ranger and for about 2 years i ran it with the stock system. i crank the sound as high as i can without distortion most of the time and i run as much bass as i can. i also offroad sometimes so i think some dust and stuff might have gotten in to it. 1 year to 18 months ago i noticed it started to skip alot and it would only od it after i had been using it for a while. it only does it on the last few tracks and it gets progressively worse. recently i put new 6x9 speakers in the front. with the new speakers i can turn it up louder and run more bass and the problem has gotten somewhat worst since the new speakers. i also noticed after a while of running it it gets hot... very hot and sometimes the lights on it flicker with the hitting of the bass.... this leads me to belive that im running it too high... over heating and too little power. i want to know if anyone thinks putting an amp on it would help. thx.
Amping a system will ALWAYS be a better option. I had to upgrade my deck when I replaced my speakers all around the first time. Then I helped it out by putting in an amp and a sub and that definitely helps clean up the sound and lets my deck run cooler. If you think the skipping problem might be from dust, investing in a CD lense cleaner would be a good idea. I forget how much I paid for mine, but it is made by Scotch and has little soft bristles that brush off the dust from the lense.
i actually already bought one and used it made no diff so i think the laser might be going or its just over heating..... not that big if a problem anymore anywho i finally blew out one of the stock speakers i was using for bass behind the seat so i have to keep it turned down right now. oh welllook like 2 more 6x9's coming up i got a crappy amp im gonna hook up see if it sounds any better who knows...

I had a problem like that. But I already had an amp. My HU would be hot. And it would kinda static when playing cd's and then not play at all. A lens cleaner didnt help, so i just got a new HU
