I am getting a rattle noise coming from the left side of my engine. I's a 4.0 SOHC, someone told me it may be the timing chain tensioner, or the camshaft chain tensioner?
Search this forum for "camshaft chain tensioner" and read some of those posts. See if your engine sounds are similar to those described. If so, have your tensioners replaced. There is also a problem with the chain guides which can wear out and cause a sound much like a chain being drug over a piece of metal.
If the car is new to you and you don't know if your car was fixed under Ford's recall, take your VIN to a dealer and they should be able to tell you if your car had this repair or not. If it has not and you are still under 72,000 miles, take the car to a dealer to have the camshaft chain tensioners replaced immediately.
If it has not and you are still under 72,000 miles, take the car to a dealer to have the camshaft chain tensioners replaced immediately.

If it has not and you are still under 72,000 miles, take the car to a dealer immediately to have the camshaft chain tensioners replaced FOR FREE UNDER FORD RECALL 00M12.
Even if your car is over 72,000 miles and you think the chain tensioners are bad, they should be replaced.
I just dropped my truck off to have the chain, both tensioners, and the sprocket replaced. Too bad my truck has over 72k miles on it, I could of saved myself a few dollars.
Thanks for all the help.
