if you guys would, check this out. www.intake-mods.com
I just won an auction for one of thier intake modifications on eBay. It's a chip that you put in your intake temp sensor. It modifies the reading so that you get increased air flow and increased horsepower. The way I see it, I've got a custom exhaust but it's not doing me any good if the air coming in isn't right.
What I'm wondering, and the guys that are selling it to me are very vague in their answers but, is this chip going to increase fuel usage where it is damaging not only to my fuel economy but also to my fuel pump and/or filter? I've heard the horror stories of these mod's burning out a pump because they're not made to handle the increased usage performed by these modifications.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Dec-02 AT 02:26 PM (EST)]yeah it's pretty much a rip off. They attach a .25 cent resister to your IAT (IAC) sensor and it makes the computer think your truck is always running cold so it advances the timing. Which means you have to run premium gas. Your extra HP's come from the advanced timing with the use of premium gas. If you ever get an aftermarket chip then you have to remove the IAT mod because the aftermarket chip advances the timing to. At most you might get up to 5 hp with the 4.0.
I can't remember if it's called an IAT or IAC sensor.
so what you're saying is: I got ripped off. wonder if I can cancel at this point. doesn't sound worth any amount of $$, even though I didn't pay that much.
After the auction is closed you are committed to buying what you have won. Read the eBay rules. Chalk the $$ up to education and take your lumps.
I have seen people buy NIB stuff from a private seller for more than you can buy it new at Jegs or Summit where you get return privileges and a warranty. I have even seen used stuff go for higher than new price.
Thanks for using FTE!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Dec-02 AT 09:13 AM (EST)]I'm not talking about scrubbing the obligation from eBay, and I've read the 'rules' and I've already paid for the product...although it hasn't come yet. This guy that I bought the piece from isn't a private seller. He's a distributor that sells a lot of these 'kits' for many different vehicles, and has already offered refunds if not happy with the product. That's the side I was referring to. I wouldn't try to get out of the auction because of something I heard.
the Haynes manual I have referres to the sensor as the IAC (Intake Air Control). But there is also mention of an IAT (Intake Air Temp.) It says it covers 94-00.
