Emergency Brake

Hey guys need some advice. Just installed an emergency brake from a 79 into my 66 F100 sb. I hated that pull handle thing so put one in with a foot pedal. Acutally it went in pretty good, however, the cable l got with it was to short by abouot 8-10 inches. When I got to looking I found that the original cable was a better fit although to long and the ***** on each end are smalller that the 79 and won't fit into their retainers very well. So my question is 1) has anyone else ever done this swap and, if so, what did they do for a cable and 2) has anyone ever tried to remove the ball from the end of the cable, they look like they may be heated and the put on. In any case, sure would appreciate any advice.

Chuck, Since these are holding brakes and not stopping, I might consider using the longer cables in a bypass mode holding them in place with cable clamps. I did this once with a courier when my son was in college. The cable had broken and we needed the parking brakes to pass inspection. I went to the hardware store and bought new cable, and used cable clamps to hold it in place. They worked and it passed inspection.

Some of the systems used an extender, a coupling that the ball on the cable would fit into (both ends) a short length of cable, and another coupling. I had a 76 F100 SC that had this arrangement.
