94 power locks/windows

94 power locks/windows

94 Explorer has inoperative (no sound, no movement) power window and power lock on the drivers door only..the other doors work fine. After removing the door panel, I checked the wiring for chafing and the connectors for security. I checked the switches and finally got down to pulling the connectors off each of the actuators and checking for power. Each has only two wires going to it, door locked/unlocked and window up/down. My test light showed power on each after moving each of the switches to those respective positions.

Now to the question...obviously the actuators are bad (aren't they?) and they didn't exactly look easy to replace. I haven't found any procedures in the Haynes manual or on this forum on removal/replace of either of these components. Does anyone have any experience, Internet links, or advice on changing these components?

This is for my sisters Explorer, but my 92 is sure to have the same problem in the future, The right rear window makes funny noises. I've read the link shown at the top of the forum describing a repair on the gearbox of the window, but it appears this is a different situation. Those motors would run but not move the window.

I've had simular problems with my 91. The electrical system on these are full of bugs. The passenger side window would only work infrequently. I did all of the tests that you did and it should have worked. The master switch at drivers door had power but it must not have been letting enough go through to operate the passenger unit. As soon as we replaced the switch on the master side it started working again. The wires also end to chafe where they go through the door/jamb area.
My radio exploded yesterday while I was driving along-----that was a real trip. It just suddenly went to full volume on it's own and wouldn't turn down!
That was an easy fix, I made a quick turn into the local stereo shop and now have a new Alpine replacement in there.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try a direct jumper wire from a spare battery applied to the actuator, bypassing the switch. I'll reply here on the forum as to the results
