Thanks for your time..I have a 99 psd 4x4 6spd..Just replaced the rear pads about 6 months ago. Been living with a thunk sound whenever I apply the brakes in the rain. Isolated the sound to the rear and assume it's got to be the brakes. Everything is tight and torqued to specs..and again, it only makes the sound when they're wet. Any of that sage, saavy advice would be greatly appreciated..
Wet brake shoes can cause a sticky or chattering feeling if they are wet enough. If the sound started when the shoes were changed I would definitely go back and look at the rear brakes. Is it possible that the backing plates are loose? If you had to force the drums off I would check the drums for cracks. I would also check for the possibility of the rear axle twisting under braking. Check for loose U-bolts, and worn spring perches and shackles/bushings. It's possible that there has been a problem for some time and the new brakes are making the problem more noticable.
Thanks for the advice..the brakes are discs..yes. Oyyy, I'm schleppin on the schnitzel trying to figure things out. The thunk only comes from the drivers side rear and again only when its wet..which I'm learning is the way it is up he'ah in the pacific northwest. I'm going to take it all apart and try re-assembling..Thanks again for the replies.

Hmm, are the pads slightly undersized and shifting in the caliper when you apply the brakes?
That was the prob..another mystery solved! Thanks kwikk...Apparently the brake shoes I purchased by Schucks..Yeah...aww schucks! was about an1/8 inch smaller than the Motorcraft I purchased from the dealer. All to save a buck. Seems to be right as rain..Thanks again for your time.
