just pick up a 460 out of a 77 f250. valve covers say 460 IMCO what does this meen.
what is the stalk hp for this engine?
any help would be much apretated. thanks.
IMCO, if I remember correctly, meant that the engine used CNG (Compressed Natural Gas).
As to the STOCK horsepower rating, I don't believe it would be any different than any other 460 for that year. I believe it was in the 235HP range, but I don't have a listing of different ratings for different years. Perhaps someone else could chime in here with the published ratings for the '77 model year.
OK--the IMCO either refers to a Marine engine or to a CNG engine (IMCO is the Stock Exchange symbol for "IMPCO", which does CNG conversions for automotive and other uses).
So, here are the possibilities:
1.) This actually WAS a marine engine at one time, and was transplanted into a truck
2.) The VALVE COVERS were from a marine engine, and were put on this engine
3.) The engine was ORIGINALLY set up for CNG
4.) The VALVE COVERS were from an engine that was set up for CNG
This is, of course, assuming that the "460 IMCO" is embossed into the valve cover; if it's just a sticker, then it could have just been added at any time by anybody who opened the hood, and would mean nothing whatsoever. Other than that, the only choices I can think of are the ones I listed above.
thnks alout for your help. as far as i know it is ariganal for that truck.
if it was marine or cng would it have difrent heads.

IMCO (Im)poved (co)mbustion exhaust emission control) imco system feature a specially calibrated carburetor and distributor. The carburetor provides cleaner air fuel mixture . Starting in 1968 Ford cars and trucks you will find this on exhaust emission decal. My emissions sticker is on the valve cover it will tell you what emissions system your car has it will tell you if your car came with an EGR or no EGR
