Hey fellow ford enthusists!!My 2001 ranger has the auto trans in it,my question is tha when I put it in gear it takes forever to engage. It is even slower going into reverse,I can almost take a nap....what is the prob?what can be done to fix this?my wifes car(ford) is quick and firm shifting, what gives ????
Well since you posted ths message in May and I see no responses as of yet I would say that if you haven't done so already then take it to the dealer, it's still under warranty right? That includes drivetrain also.
might as well post a similar question! On my '95 ranger, when I put it in park - it dosen't like to lock in park. I have an automatic (of coarse I do if it has Park!), anyway, I use the parking brake all the time because it has rolled forward as much as two feet after placing it in park! Any ideas?
About the only thing I can suggest is to take it apart and check the gears. It may require having the tranny rebuilt. That's about the only thing I can tell you...but get a second opinion from a tranny repairman if you haven't already.
My dad had an '89 model from late in '88 till late in '97. The entire time he had it he had this same problem. 2 factory ford trannys and 2 aftermarket trannys and 175k miles later he finally bought a toyota. I love my edge but thats the reason it doesnt have an auto.
Dont Feel Bad, i have a 2000 ranger 4X4, and it shifts very slow forward to reverse, i suspect a bad servo in tranny, or, vacume modulator..either way, it is improving slowly, with milage, the more miles on it the faster its shifting..Might even be stiff from factory..Bear with it and save some time and money...other tan that the truck runs like gang busters, and i have no complaints, just gives me time to light a smoke tween directin changes...:-X12 ...Rockinpoppa
