OBD II CODE SCANNER
I just bought a Code Scanner Oo (just went out of warranty). I've beem reading the manual, pretty clear for pulling codes for KOEO but not much infor about scanning while driving. It says to see the truck manul. My Hayes manual deals more with using a metter in the pre-OBDII s . So is it safe to scan while driving? If so is the proper procedure to hook it up then start the engine???.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Dec-02 AT 05:58 PM (EST)]Granted I haven't used the new (96 n up) OBDII scanners. But I'd say no. I'm sure, like the old code scanner it puts the computer into a test mode. Checking sensors n relays n such. Plus it wouldn't do you any good because checking stuff is pretty much job 2 for the onboard cpu (job 1 being makin adjustments in order to increase power n mileage while decreasing emissions).

Check that. I was just reading about "Ford OBD II Enhanced Data", and I don't know what your scanner is capable of, but there is software and PDA hookups and such out there that can do everything form 1/4 mile times to torque curves, and alot more. So maybe you can leave it plugged up. I'd read the manual to see what it can do.

Trying to watch a scanner and drive can be tricky 
I had a problem when connecting a break out box and a scanner, I get crazy DTC's. I was told to turn the key to ON then connect the scanner. This works but not all the time!
