351W compared to a 351M

What are the dimensions of a 351W compared to a 351M? I am wanting to put a 351W in my 78 Bronco but would like to know how certain things will line up. Will the motor mounts bolt up to it? Will headers route through like the "M" block? I know that this was not an option for that year but I believe would make a good swap because of the availability of aftermarket parts i.e..fuel injection and other parts. Thanks!

The Windor is a small block, where the M is a big block. The dimesions are different, as are the bell-housing pattern and heads. As far as I know nothing interchanges between the two.

I know that the "M" block is a big block design but what are the dimensions of the W compared to the M?

The M block is a small block too, it has the same bore, bore spacing, and head bolt pattern as the 302,351W. 351C/351M/400 heads fit on a 351W block no problem.

The 351M is taller and wider because of deck height, and bellhouseing, motor mounts, and headers are different. thats a lot of work for the small advantage in aftermarket parts. you must be doing hellva build up cause you can get 400hp 500tq out of a 400 pretty easily.

BTW what aftermarket parts are you after that you can't get for the 335 series.

Fuel injection mainly. aluminum heads that kind of stuff. I have looked at building a 400 before but haven't commited to it yet. I am leary about a 460 because of the weight differences. But I am still looking. I am going to start looking for an engine to build in January.

Lightbulb check out summit

check out summit racings online shop www.summitracing.com and ebay for that mattter i had about gave up on aftermarket parts for my 351m, but one of the guys from midatlantic chapter looked some stuffup for me and found allkinds of stuff. i just picked up an edlebrock intake manifold and a holley double pumper 650 for the beast. no sence in dropin the M for convience plus the windsor doesnt have allthat much extra stuff for it. not worth the time in my opinion, but thats just me

if you bronco is an auto you need to find a small block 4x4 C6, and they ain't easy to find.
you can get aluminum heads for 335s. stock 335 heads flow real good with some porting.
you can convert any V8 carb intake to EFI with little trouble.
a 351M is easier to stroke than a 351W, just add 400 crank, pistons, flywheel, and balancer.
