95 auto transmission losing fluid won't move

I recently bought this truck and had no problems until now. It has 190,000 miles and a 7.3 diesel motor. My son borrowed the truck and after traveling 50 miles at 65-70 mph he pulled off the exit ramp and stopped at the light. The truck started acting up motor rpm up and down at idle. The truck only started moving after higher rpm from the motor. My son reached his destination about a 1/2 mile away, the truck would go no further. The truck lost major tranny fluid, the leak is between the motor and bellhousing I feel either due to front tranny seal or possible toque converter problem. any thoughts.

Most likely front seal on the tranny, seems to have been a rash of these lately.

Did you try refilling the trans? If so, did it move after that? If it didn't, my bet's on the torque converter. I had a similar thing happen 1-1/2 weeks ago, except I only made it 300 yards. Since it had 206k+ miles and I use it for towing all the time, I opted for a replacement transmission. I'll check out the converter tomorrow & post the findings.

I didn't refill the tranny and try to move the truck. I decided to pull the tranny first and go from there. The fluid does not have any shavings in it and looks good in color. Did your torque converter have a crack or something else?
