Problems with 02 Explorer
I've only had my 02 Explorer XLS for three months and im already regreting getting it. I've had it in the shop 4 times already for various reasons, but the two main things that are really making me mad is a humming sound coming from the rear end and the transmission shifting eratically. Every time I take it in they say the rear diff. are leaking and they replace them but that never fixes the noise, they've done that twice. Is there a fix for this or is this something im going to have to live with? The second thing is the transmission and how it switches gears rough. And just today I've noticed when I come to a complete stop the transmission jerks a little. Also last week I was on the highway and I had the truck on cruise control at about 80mph and it was riding smooth for a while then all of a sudden the truck jerked and the RPM tac shot up. So basically I just want to see if anybody has had these problems and what was the fix for them because im not getting anywhere with the dealership. Thanks

You pretty much described all the reasons I traded my '02 XLT V6 for an '04 XLT Sport V8 (none of the problems the '02 had). I know it's a hassle, but you need to keep getting everything documented while still under warranty; that's assuming you're going to keep it past 3/36000.
