I'm getting ready to invest in a Tymar Intake and 4" exaust. I've read the importance of gauges prior to installing chips and programmers. Should gauges be purchased prior to intake and exaust upgrades?
My plan is to purchase the gauges after the intake and exaust upgrades, and then purchase a chip... that is unless gauges should come first.
And always let the truck Idle a few minutes after running it to cool the turbo. Once you have the gauges in you can see the turbo temp and be sure not to shut it down with a temp over 300 degrees F to keep from coking up the turbo.

Yea what Kwik said. If you get gauges first - it'd basically be for grins and giggles to see what you do stock. I actually got my gauges first before I did any other mods - just to be able to see what changed with what mods.
I went with Autometer Sport Comp gauges, I think they look pretty good. You will probably want them lighted, unless you don't do any driving at night. They'll be really tough to see otherwise.
If you have a Super Duty then the ISSPRO EV series gauges are about the closest match out there. Check them out at www.Dieselmanor.com . If you have an old bodystyle truck I think they make the same gauges with white pointers to match the earlier trucks.

I guess I was a bit unclear, and left a bit of ambiguity in my question. When I said "With and without lighting", I meant "How do they look in both the lit and unlit conditions?"

When I clicked on your provided link, I was taken to MotorHaven. They have the ISSPRO-EV guages, too, but they have white needles. The Dieselmanor ones are much more like the Ford stock guages, having the orange needles.
Check out VDO Vision series. They are almost identicial to the factory gauges on the SD. The only difference is the have numbers and the factory gauges don't.
Don't think you can wrong with either one. VDO is a big supplier of OEM, especailly for European manufacturers. I went with VDO. To me it looked more like the factory gauges.
Yeah Springer, the white pointers match the early style trucks, the orange pionters are perfect for the Super Duties. I didn't know what year your truck was. When you get a chance create a signature so you won't have to post that type of info every time you have a question. The VDOs and ISSPROs are both quality gauges, go with the ones you can get the best deal on.
