Block Heater ?

This is my first diesel with a block heater although I have driven a diesel vw jetta for 8 yrs with no block heater... say for instance my 02 X psd was gonna sit outside in a normal chicago winter for 2 days should I :

A. keep it plugged in for the whole time its outside
B. plug it in 2 hrs before I am gonna leave

Not really sure which is the lesser of 2 evils on the heater system. BTW on my diesel 98 jetta(145k) when its really cold i give it the old 3 cycles of the glow plugs.....lmk what you guys think on A or B

If the batteries and GP system are working correctly, all it will take is a few cycles for it too. If it does need to be plugged in, option B. will be sufficient.

It takes about 2 hours as you say, to heat up the motor. If you have the time to plug it in 2 hours before use, you will save a small amount in elec. cost, but otherwise, just leave it plugged in from the time you return home until its next use, and you are ready at any time.

bought mine new in 99,, live in the Buffalo area. have never plugged it in.

just turn the key on till the light in the dash goes out,, then start it. not garage kept, and never had a problem starting.
