I want to do a compression test on a vehicle for someone before they dump any more money into fixing the car. Unfortunately, I can not find any adapters that will fit down into the hole. I keep seeing 14 mm long reach adpaters advertised with compression testers, but, none sold alone. I tried some anti-foul plug adapters, but, they are not long enough.
I am seriously thinking about welding an air hose fitting onto a hollowed out spark plug and clamping some airline to that and the compression tester.
Is there any place that sells these adapters by themselves, before I try something red-necked ?
I looked for an adapter by itself all over and gave up. I finally bought a KD tool compression tester that had the long reach 14MM adapter on it. Now I have two compression testers...
You could use a spark plug shell and braze or weld in a long tube.
I was working on a Ford 2.6L V-6 in a Contour. The spark plugs are in deep holes.
Yes, I have knocked out a spark plug and welded on a reducing bushing or pipe nipple that fits the hose on the comp tester. You have to see where the check valve is in the adapter and take that in to consideration.
There is what I made up and requires no welding (though I do own a welder).
Basically, a 14 mm anti-foul adapter, the standard 14 mm. adapter, which was turned into the first to the point of yield, and a brass nipple that was wedged in there. The threads were not exactly the same, but, close enough torqued down to provide a good seal. If I can find a steel nipple, all the ones I had or looked at where brass or aluminum, I might throw a few fast tack welds on later.
Because I overtighten all the connections, I had no problem using a hose on the end to screw everything into the spark plug hole and out again.
