Plug Coil testing?
4.6 after a had a coil go bad on me. I figured I may as do the plugs as the coil was in the back anyway. That was the 2nd coil I've switched out and truck has 70k miles. I had to ID the specific cylinder each time at a local shop on their machine (as to location) of the faulty coil. $40 fee and time consuming. My question is- is there any procedure to check each coil - (like unplugging the power supply on each coil as I go) to find the faulty coil- or do I have to do trial and error and replace each coil one at a time until I find the right one (cylinder isn't firing) and the truck runs normal? With the fuel lines- having to be reinstalled each time I fire the engine up this would be an incredibly troublesome task I imagine. Any luck out there or am I stuck doing this the hard way? Finally- what is the life expectancy on those things- at $113 a pop and changing one a month or so it gets pricey through 8 cylinders.
Thanks Guys/Gals--
