C-6 problem
I've got a question for you transmission guys. I have an '88 Mustang with a 429/C-6 in it.(yeah, I know it's not a truck, but it does have the big blue warning label on the front!) The transmission is giving me some trouble and I'm stumped about what's actually wrong with it. It appears to have a "mystery gear" when it's in drive, it doesn't seem to ever shift. I'm assuming it may be second.(stinking thing's sooo light, it'll smoke 'em second standing still) Here's the funny part. If I put the thing in 1st, it will lock up the wheels. It appears to be actuating both the reverse and 1st circiuts at the same time. It was slipping abit between shifts before this happened. Other than a shift kit and a 2400 stall, the trans is completely stock with ??? miles on it. Any of you guys have any ideas? Thanx!
I know only this about an automatic:
--check the linkage
--check the modulator and the vacuum lines (discovered that one on our '66 wagon and fixed it, made me a hero with the old man although he never acknowledged it. He was stunned I knew what a modulator was.)
--band adjusments?
--pump pickup filter screen in the pan?
I remember a steel girdle for C'6's in the day because the case would flex when behind a beefed up 428 or such beast. There is another post around here asking about the max power into a C6. Read this post, there is a warning about tweeking the case with too much power.

Good luck, and perhaps better minds will chime in.
