I got a 96 F 150 supercab and the cruise control just quit working. I mean it does nothing like it is dead. I checked the fuses in the fuse panel under the dash and not sure wich fuse it is I checked all of them, They all are fine. Any Ideas of what is wrong or is there a fuse or fusable link somewhere else. Any help appreciated...
Without going to my owners manual there is more fuses under the hood. It may be out there. Thats where I found the one for the trailer running lights that I had blown.
Check to see if any tail lights are out. I got a 96 too and when my right rear tail light went out (directional) my cruise control would shut off when I put my turn signal on.
Okay.
If It Is Not The Fuse Then It Is The Connection Under The Hood.
Pop The Hood. Follow The Cable From The Throttle Body To The Cruise Control Throttle Control. Check The Wire Connections. They Are Famous For Getting Dirty From Splashed Water And Dirt Clean And Seal. MY 96 quit for a while until i stumbled onto the repair.

Ok all fuses are good. I pulled off the wire harness to the speed control servo to check for corrosion. I found a liquid stuff I first thought was water but feels more like a very light oil. Is this supposed to be wet ?? Possibly an anti corrosion stuff put there from factory?? Anyway there is alot of it coating all connections. What is the best way to clean the connections ??
I read somewhere here that brake fluid from the master cylinders can leak down from the connection there. Usually the stuff to prevent corrosion and aid conduction is a special white or grey grease.
clean it with some paper towel or blow it out. after you reconnnect you can coat the outside with silicone cauls to keep crap out. does the cruise control work now?
I found the problem after doing the million point check in my newly bought Ford service manuals ( these are great books and I highly recomend them) I believe it to be the Deactivator switch that is located on the master cylender.....
On my 93 I had the same problem. The 93 does not have air bags as a word of caution of which yours probably does. I learn the following from a senior member here when I posted my cruise control did not work. This was his first answer.Under the steering/wheel column there is a small panel cover you remove to get to the crusie control cable. The cable connection over a period of time may be jarred enough to break the cruise control connection. To look at it, the plugs appeared connected good. I wiggled and push the female/male plug's together and Wha la, the cruise control began working again. That was 2 years ago and it is still working thanks to the informative answer I recieved from this forum.
