Low range 2WD

Is it bad to run my truck in low range 4X4 with my manual hubs unlocked?

No, there is no harm in doing this.

I have seen the rear drive shaft twisted in two when a truck under heavy load lost traction on the front axle while in 4x4 low. It is possible to overload the rear drive train in 4x2 low.

It's bad to rev the engine and dump the clutch when you've got a 5000 pound trailer hooked up. If you're just jockying around a trailer in your drive way it's okay, I do it every time to make use of the slower speeds....less error.

I've used 4-Lo with the hubs unlocked plenty of times in the Bronco and in the truck as well. On a part-time t-case, it doesn't hurt anything. All it does is lower the gear ratio. There's no magic happening in there, so no reason to be afraid of it.
