I like the electronic odometer to stay on the "trip odometer" setting most of the time. However, on restarts, it often, but not always, reverts back to the normal odometer setting. Anyway to force it to stay on "trip" mode? Thanks!
(I misplaced the darn manual; maybe this is explained in there somewhere).
Larry
Lar,
The manual doesn't say anything about that, I just looked myself. My odometer, trip odometer cycles back and fourth no matter what I leave it in. For instance I started my truck 6 times today. I had the following results:
Start # Function
1-ODO
2-ODO
3-TRIP
4-ODO
5-TRIP
6-TRIP
Dealer says that they have never heard of this, and that they will look into it.
They first thought it was a sticky button, but that does not seem to be the case. I am thinking it is a firmware related issue. But what do I know about firmware/software... Microsoft technicians.....
Thank you

Matt, I think we're driving the same truck! LOL! Just a quirk, I guess. Thanks!

Hum, that's weird, I noticed this too but I noticed it the trip odo goes back to odo when I leave my truck off for a longer time. I noticed if I leave it off for say 5 minutes, the trip odo stays on, but if I leave it off for say an hour, it'll go back to the odo. However, I've never had it go from "odo" to "trip" without me pressing the button.
I am secretly thinking that my truck (2004 SuperCrew FX4) has some electrical problems. I just turned 2000 on the ODO and have noticed a few little glitches here and there.
The ODO/TRIP ODO goes back and forth with no press of the button.
The out side keyless entry buttons light up at weird times with no one around, or no presses of any buttons. The auto dimming mirror doesn;t always seem to auto dim.
The radio is making the speakers distort with too much bass, even though the bass is all the way down, the treble is all the way up, and the volume is very low.
I really hope it is not electrical in nature but can be blamed on a restless soul, gremlins, or my mother in law in Bismark.
Thanks,
MK
Ha, yeah, do you live near an airbase? Toxic waste dump site? Cemetary? Hehe, jk, sounds like something's wiggin out... maybe somethings not grounded right... I don't know. It doesn't seem right, I'd take it to the dealer, just in case.

I was out of town on Business this week and rented a 2004 Explorer, and when ever I muted the Radio, or turned turned the volume down, It would turn itself back up at random intervals.
I am not sure about the explorer, but my truck has the "speed sensitive volume" control on the radio. It raises the volume to what it thinks (is programmed) based on the vehicle speed. This is to compensate for any road/vehicle noise. Mine has 7 settings, 1-7. When 7 is selected, it is very touchy, and doesn't really matter where my original volume setting was in the first place.
