Noisey Steering
Hoping someone can help out. My '97 F150 has very noisey steering (people turn their heads in the parking lot). Power steering fluid is fine, joint is greased, it's not hard to turn, just NOISEY!! I've since heard another F150 and and Explorer making the same noise when turning. Any suggestions??

I can usually tell a Ford without seeing it by the noise the pump makes. It is normal. The good news is, unless you go off-roading a lot with big tires, that the pump generally will outlast everything on the truck except maybe the steering box.

The sound is not normal. It is a sign that your pump is worn out thru abuse or neglect and it is bypassing fluid from the high pressure side back to the inlet thru grooves worn in the valve plate. Replace the pump AND put an inline filter on it.
