Ok, This morning I am driving to work and my truck weirded out on me. To start off, last weekend I pulled off the intake manifold and throttle body. Changed both gaskets, fuel pressure regulator, cleaned throttle body, and replaced IAC. Have replaced TPS, plugs, wires, cap, rotor and pcv valve all if the lasted 2 weeks. Since then my idle has gone up almost 300 rpm.
Ok to this morning, when I was driving my rpm's reveded up then down. sometimes it would stay up around 2000 rpm. This hasn't happened since this morning but it kind of freaked me out. What would cause 1) my idle to increase and 2) cause my truck to freak out on me.
I have one other question. What is this and what does it do?
This is on the vac lines running from my throttle body to evap. canister. It has an electrical connector attached to the bottom.
Picture is in my gallery.
it is the canister purge soleniod. THe canister collects fuel vapours and stores them in charcoal. The soleniod opens and sucks air and draws the vapours along for the ride thru the engine. I found on my truck the vac line from the solenoid to the can had completley deterorated and had a big hole in it and it made no difference to the running of the truck (that I could tell)
Hmm, not sure if this is the same. 1 time i was driving... go figure, (its a 5spd btw) and when i would drive, if i would push the clutch in, it would take about 5 seconds to rev down to idle. I drove around reving it a bit and it went away, no prob since, ne ideas?
It sounds like a intake leak causing the idle problem. Recheck all of the bolts/studs and make sure the gaskets are in place and did not slip out on the install! The purge valve soleniod should block the purge line when the engine is running and let the vacuum draw vapor off the carb when the engine is off.
To test the valve; pull the purge line off the carb and start the engine. Check for vacuum on the carb end of the line. If you have any vacuum the the valve is bad. This will cause a vacuum leak in a round about way and could cause idle problems!
