I stopped at Sam's Club and pumped $47- roughly a third of my life savings- into my Bronco. The pump attendant came over to see my new wheels- he's a friendly older guy who likes Broncos- and we talk for a few minutes while I'm filling up. It was freakin' cold outside and when the pump finally stopped all I could think about was my heater. As I was driving down the road I heard a loud thump, but couldn't figure out what the heck it was so I just turned up the radio to drown it out if it should occur again.
This morning as I'm taking the trash out I notice my gas cap hanging out from under my fuel door. I drove around all afternoon like that and suddenly I realized the loud thump must have been my fuel door closing when I finally achieved 60 MPH. I wonder why people don't point these things out to other drivers in today's world.
Yeah, I saw a lady do that once. The worst part was after she yanked the hose off the pump, she freaked and backed up over the hose, which tightened up and yanked the nozzle out of her spout denting her car. That's a bad day.
The demeanor of some people prevent you from being nice and pointing things out like this... especially if you or the person you're waving to don't know sign language. One time when I did something like this I nearly ended up in a fight when the guy I was attempting to talk to misunderstood my gestures and he was ready to take it off the road and slug something out... some people don't deserve the help.
