i went wrong with wiring the 390 somehow... the radio works but the engine wont even turn over... what all do you have to have wired to make it turn over and run?
What all did you "unwire"? Did you just install the motor, and can't get it running?? You should have not bothered anything that would make it not start(except starter wire).
Where did you unhooked the starter wire from?? Down at the starter or up at soleniod?? Maybe something is not hooked up right?
i unhooked it at solenoid... im going to the library cuz they have wiring diagram, yes the library... spread the news that you can actually go to the library.. i saw other posts where nobody knew what to do except buy a book.... who would have thought.... the library... haha...
I went to the library but the Mitchell books they had for wiring diagrams started at 1973. The other Mitchell books for tranny's, engines and carbs went back before 73 but not the wiring diagrams. I was one of those putting out posts looking for a wiring diagram. I finally got one yesterday. I asked my mechanic and he remembered buying some software that had "antique" repair info on them. He printed me off a copy of the wiring diagram. Anyway, as for your problem, remember the neutral safety switch. You gotta have that connected and adjusted correctly.
damn that has to be connected to the tranny? is that the one, cuz i dont. anyway i will check that out the library sucked ***.. didnt have anything i needed, like you said.... you have a scanner?
The neutral switch isn't hooked at the tranny, I don't think. I'm not sure how it is actually wired in to not allow your truck to start. I do know where it is and how to adjust it. Its at the base of your steering column. There's a little upside down Y-shaped spring-a-ma-jigger sticking out of the column and attached to the shift tube which actuates the switch. When you have the trans in park and neutral, the switch should allow your truck to start. But only if it's adjusted correctly against that Y-shaped thing. Of course in only works this way if you have an automatic. I don't have a scanner but if you'll shoot me your address, I'll gladly send you a copy. It's for a 72 but I don't know how much different they are over the years.
ok,.the nuetral safety switch, its on top of ur column at the base about 5 inches from the fire wall,on the toip is a metel thinger theat moves about 1/2 an inch,or so,i dont beleve that there is one that goes to the tranny, actually im absolutly sure,so i hope i could help
it was hooked up... i figured the problem out, even though i tried it like 40 million times, but now it turns over and the carb back fires, the battery was almost dead, so im charging it now till someone gets home and i can use there car as a jump..... i cant wait to get big red started. then i will feel awesome.... would it be okay to drive 40 miles on just stock headers?? cuz i was going to take it to the muffler shop and get my exhaust welded back up.. i cut it cuz i got headers but they didnt fit, i think they are for a 250 or something.... so i had to put stock on and now im stuck with cut pipes that need to be welded..... any suggestions for the fire up?
