Please help, poss elec issue??

Hi
This is my first time posting on here

Vehicle: 1998 Explorer
About a month ago my 4WD HI and 4WD LO lights in the dash appeared and blink on and off for about 5 seconds every 10 minutes or so. I called the dealership and they think it is a big problem. Then I looked at all the fuses and one was loose so i pushed it back in and the problem stopped.

Now, for about a week it has been happening again. In addition, my headlights are not working. The daytime running lights, signals, parking lights and tail lights work fine but when I turn on the headlights they do not come on. I have checked the bulbs and replacing them does nothing.

Do I have a bigger problem here that needs to be checked out or could I do something myself. (My best friend has a lot more experience with mechanics but not electrical probs but can do a lot of other things)

Please help! I am a student and way too broke to take it in somewhere right now.

Did you pull that loose fuse out and inspect it? check all your fuses out first.

Yes, check for corrosion on the contacts and make sure the contacts in the fuse box are not spread open, making poor contact.

Do you have a "light out" monitor? Some guys on here have had problems with their headlights, and the light out module was actually causing the problem.
