95 Explorer Transfer Case/Tranny
I have a '95 explorer that has the 4WD option. When I turn on 4WD I find that after a while, the light will go away, and moments later, both 4WD and 4WDLo lights will flash for a while, beep, and then stop for a couple of minutes before repeating.
At times, if the 4WD light is on and I make a sharp turn, the truck will fight me to the point of making sounds that I think are not normal. This usually entails a metallic banging noise, but not a rubbing sound. Recently, I have noticed that if 4WD is engaged and I turn the vehicle off, the truck lurches forward as if the driveshaft was not disengaged.
The third symptom of this problem is the feeling like the truck is slipping. The tach does not show variation in the engine RPMs, but the speedometer will show it. The feeling is hard to describe other than while driving uphill, the truck will push and then hesitate and then push again. These symptoms are also felt while going downhill, but in both cases, they are intermittent.
Any ideas?
Thanks
