I have a 85' 4x4 W/ a 300 six. I am having a electric problem. The truck will suck all the juice out of a new fully charged battery in about a 10 min. drive. The alternator is new and even with a bad alternator I think a fully charged battery would last longer than 10 min. Any suggestions?
1st thought...are you sure the battery is good? If so you say the alt. is new, did you buy it from somewhere like Advance or Autozone(who are both known to give out several bad electrical items before you get a get a good one)? Have you checked the solenoid or the starter for any problems? There is alot of stuff to check and rule out, chances are since the alt. is new(unless its bad) if the batt. has any age to it; it could be your culprit(check for a dry cell or any leakage), also check your batt. cable connections. Just a few ideas. Good luck!
You might try some testing on the wiring - if you can get a hold of an amp meter - you can shut the engine off and see if there is any current draw on any of the wiring. It sounds like you may have a wire going to ground someplace. Of course, like others have said, don't rule out bad parts or bad battery. I once had to exchange three of Sears super batterys to get one that would hold a charge over night.
